This is very moving, Drew. A good reminder of the Body of Christ. Each of us is a tiny "cell," but the body needs us all, no matter our role.

I do work for a Christ-focused NGO providing water and sanitation services in Madagascar. My family and I have been involved in these ministries for over 25 years. I say this not to brag, but to provide a foundation for what I'd like to say to Mr. Yancey, Ms. Henry & others who may struggle with your calling. Please don't. If & when that struggle tries to tug at you, just rest knowing you are doing exactly what God created you to do.

While I have never had the blessing of seeing Ms. Henry's paintings, I have read many of the books Mr. Yancey has written. They have ministered, encouraged and reminded me of God's grace and His nature when I needed it. They encourage me when I wonder about close family members who have left their faith. And, they have provided me with insights on different topics I might never have had otherwise.

To those who share God's love through words and through art, thank you. We are all a part of His body, sharing the different aspects of His love through the gifts He has given us.

I deeply appreciate Yancy's words that when he writes he is not actively ministering to immediate needs of others. I am struggling with a similar conflict as a painter. I believe the Lord has graced me with a space to paint in a very supportive cooperative studio and arts building. I think I need to grasp the opportunity with both hands yet inside I keep thinking, where else can I volunteer. I think I can trust the Lord will open that door and at the same time receive this present gift from him.
Came to this site because I struggle with the Christian church view towards homosexuality, especially when I wondered if a new gay new acquaintance is a Buddhist because of the stance of the church against homosexuality. Thank you for the thoughts you have expressed, Phillip Yancy's.

Francis Spufford delivered a really fascinating talk called "On Not Being C.S. Lewis." It's not an anti-C.S. Lewis lecture, but it's trying to explore how the parameters of apologetics have changed, especially in a West where secularism is now taken for granted. I like C.S. Lewis, but I think Spufford is onto something:

So cool I love Lewis' Mere Christianity! I've read it a couple times and have attempted an in-depth review of the text in the Christian Apologetics Alliance newsletter.

Great essay. I love Mere Christianity. As a single work, I really like that along with Miracles. But, I would say my favorite 'book' is God in the Dock - largely because it is a compilation of essays that reflect the breadth of Lewis' insights (apologetics, literature, human nature, etc.).

My favorite essay is in the Weight of Glory publication, "The Inner Ring." This was deeply convicting and eye-opening when I first read it.

Really enjoyed reading this reminded me of the chapter about Lewis in 'what good is God'. I live in Belfast (just about a mile away from that statue of the wardrobe) and am proud to say I'm from the same place as the great man!

I love all Lewis' books, both his fiction and apologetic works. My favourite is probably the Horse and his Boy, I absolutely love that book, the best ever in my opinion!!!

The three greatest Christian writers for me are Lewis, Stott, and Yancey for their clarity, open mindedness and their relentless pursuit of truth.
