So very true .. the scriptures tell us that He who loves Me keeps my commandments .. The powerful, living blood of our Christ is effective and final to break every yoke of bondage we experience in this world if we just give Him our right to our "self" and give Him our will and the choices it has made in the past. The living Truth of the cross will make us free if we let it. If we let Him. He has overcome this world's system! Hallelujah!! Blessings .. This is not to negate the many beautiful things Brennan did for so many other hurting ones...

I LOVE the man and read his "Reflections" daily and quote him in my journal. Perhaps the one that has kown and lived in the depths of sorrow and disease can better lead us to the GRACE of God. To paraphrase my tutor: God may love me as I am and not as I should be," but, Lord I am far from being pleased with myself as I walk upon this path to which you have blessed me. Guide me that my life might be a reflection of your LOVE, GRACE,and MERCY. Brennan may have passed away, but he will be with me all the days-and nights- of my life.

Brennan Manning had a huge impact on my life. I was young (21?) and I had decided that I was never going to go to mass again out of guilt, but guilt got the best of me, so I jumped in my car and went to the last mass on St. Simons Island. 1981(?) I felt like it was for me. My last name is Brennan, my favorite book was The Giving Tree, and he quoted Blaze Pascal who was one of my favorite philosophers. He spoke at mass that Sunday night. Then he gave a 3 day retreat that week. I felt that that retreat was God‘s gift for me. Thank you, Brennan Manning! I’m struggling with my faith these days, so I just listened to one of his talks online. A good reminder that God loves us just the way we are with all of our brokenness.

Hey Philip. Why would alcoholism, or making up stories, or an abusive father, or any other character defect prevent Brennan from knowing the love of God? Jesus said he who's forgiven much loves much. I personally think it's judgemental to say that. I don't think he could have talked about God's messy love in such a relatable way if he didn't.
