My great grandparents left Romania over 88 years ago to come to Canada. When the curtain went up cutting Romania off from the rest of the world, it cut us off from our heritage. We grew up curious about Romanian culture and that curiosity still exhists today.

Some years after the curtain fell we found some relatives and have learned some of what life was like. They told my grandmother to go to her parents graves kneel down and thank them for coming to Canada so we didn’t suffer like they had. For their courage to leave family, friends, country, culture, and tradition for the unknown of North Western Canada I am thankful.

I am also thankful for people like you who write about their experiences in Romania.

I shop used book stores. Picked up Soul Survivor. Don’t read Christians. Grew up in a template of your childhood church as a biracial child.

Serve in a church because an AA meeting had the same humans.
Anyway, I’d like to send a gift of gratitude for the work. Jazz piano. Book of short stories.

Frate scriu pe romaneste ca sa nu intelega toti,dar dupa cum vad nu prea ai inteles nimic de ce Dumnezeu te-a dus in Romania . Dumnezeu nu te-a dus sa vezi ce au facut comunisti ,ce matura folosesc,ce mancare au ,cati bani castiga ,ce transporturi au cu calu ,cu vaca etc. ,Dumnezeu te-a dus acolo pt. o experienta diferita ,sa vezi cum trebuie sa fie o biserica duhovniceasca , romani au ce le lipseste americanilor smerenia, frica de dumnezeu, rugaciunea, modestia,ascultarea etc Traiesc in America dar nu se vede diferenta dintre un crestin si un necrestin .,unde sunt pastori care predica de pacat ???? Problema este ca si pastori romani din america au inceput sa alunece pe acest topogan ,sa ''NU SUPARAM PE NIMENI'' !!!!!!!!

Dear Philip,
Thank you for coming to Romania. I enjoyed so much your teaching about Grace as we here in Romania, after 1989 need to know more about Grace and need to apply it to our own lives. You were a blessing!
I agree to everything you wrote in this post, except about being obsseded with food.
🙂 I strongly believe the your hostesses were a bit different than the rest of us. 🙂 I guess that guy told you about past time and hunger is a bit different than the rest of us.

Thankyou for that post, I understand my brother-in-law a lot better who is romanian, he is an Atheist and now i can see why and its been hard to reach him with any gospel news. he’s been in Australia since the late 50’s early 60’s but even so some things remain, we are not giving up on him……God certainly hasnt 🙂

thanks so much for writing honestly and with real stories. appreciate your many insights too. your books has helped me to get out of traditional teaching on Jesus especially on incarnation — He is real as a human, not a superman without feeling. your books have helped to change me to be more gracious and non-judgmental. I’m still learning. Like what you say, look at Jesus. I believe your writings have blessed the world. my circle of friends have been reading your books. I’m looking forward to read your newest book. I just finished reading your book “What Good is God?” Thank you so much for sharing such great news! I stuggle to not fall into that legalism of religion. It really does come down to Jesus’ example and his teachings, which are one in the same.
