Thank you for writing about this, Philip, and sharing Bono’s comments. Other sources confirm the high number of deaths, including of many children, so far. How can the leaders of an American democracy not only turn a blind eye to these deaths but not take action to rectify them? How can this devastation and lack of compassion be a matter of simply “scoring “political points?”

I appreciate the way that you have written your comment. And I totally agree that this divisiveness in our conversations is dangerous!

If it helps at all, I can testify to the loss of jobs. I am a doctor in South Africa in the HIV field. We used to work closely with an NPO called Anova that received most of its funding from USAID/PEPFAR. When their grants were stopped, all of those doctors, nurses, pharmacists and counsellors lost their jobs. I know their names. They were my colleagues.

When someone says that medical personnel have lost their jobs as a direct result of funding cuts, I’m wondering if they really do have the facts about why professionals really did lose their jobs directly because of DOGE, or not. I’m not a Trump supporter. Nor was I a supporter of Biden or his Administration. I have lost my faith in any political leader or team… I have lost trust in Christian leaders as well who create commentary based on facts as they see them. Even Bono said himself, ‘There’s no real evidence at this time, but it’s a growing concern.’ Hmmmm?

This is exactly where Satan wants it – confusion. We all need to be so careful to discern through the Holy Spirit, and even then we can mishear him. One thing is certain – This dualism is cancerous and destroying our culture of love. Very sad! I guess this is why the Psalm talks about ‘Stopping the traffic. Look to God above politics, above everything!’ This is the truth I do embrace and pray for our Lord to help us battle through his eyes, not our own.
